Saturday 20th September 8:.30 – 10:00am	Whakatane Harbour Care Group  have a planting working bee. All welcome. Meet at the end of McGarvey Road. Bring a spade, gloves and sturdy footwear
Saturday 20th September 10:30am	Waiewe Stream Restoration Working bee to clear felled trees.  Meet at south end of Waiewe Reserve - off Apenzell Dr or walk through reserve from north end entrance off Waiewe St.  Wear sturdy footwear and bring gloves.  Cup of tea to follow.
Saturday 20th September 9:30am	Piripai Spit Walk  Meet at the weigh station at the wharf. Bring comfortable walking shoes, either easily removed for crossing water or water and sand friendly shoes,   binoculars,  hat and wet weather gear if applicable,  Bird book and  water. Morning tea will be provided.  Catch a boat across the channel and see the harbour from the other side.  Have a look around the two islands and (hopefully) see the resident bird populations including some of the adult dotterel population. Wednesday 1st October 10:00am –3:00pm	Kiwi Conservation Club (Junior Forest & Bird) event:- Shore birds at Ohiwa Spit and Bird-art & crafts. Kids - walk around the Ohiwa Spit to see the dotterels and other birds with a shore birds' expert, then join in bird games, quizzes, arts & crafts activities at the Ohiwa Beach Holiday Park. Meet: 10am at Ohiwa Beach Holiday Park, 380 Ohiwa Harbour Rd (at their Conference room).   Time:  10am - midday (beach walk & BOP Shorebirds presentation), 1 - 3 pm (arts & crafts). Feel free to join us for the morning session/afternoon session, or both.  All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian please.  Suitable for ages 3 - 12 years. Bring:  Drink bottle, lunch, warm clothes, gold coin donation.  Optional: binoculars, something to share for morning tea. Tuesday 7th October 4:00pm	Annual Bird Spotting Challenge How many different birds can you “spot” along the river?  Warren Cole Walkway Family fun, meet at the Amphitheatre to collect your recording sheet and be in to win.  Bring binoculars if you can. Thursday 16th  October  7:00 pm	"Seeing Rare Birds in NZ" By Phil Hammond of Wrybill tours of N Z  A Forest and Bird presentation of interest to all those who go looking and clues as to how to find them. Phil is involved with a number of birding and conservation organisations, has been looking and counting all his life and is a member of a small group that run tours for wealthy overseas visitors to NZ. Saturday 18th October 8:30 am – 12 noon	Eastern Bay of Plenty Forest and Bird Society Nursery Native Plant Sale A great range of plants for farms and gardens, large or small, plants for feeding birds and providing shelter. Proceeds go to local Forest and Bird projects. Native Plant Nursery Fortunes Road,  between Whakatane and Awakeri- follow the signs.
